Hardwood Floor Cleaning

service-hardwood

It was not many years ago, as a carpet cleaner, that I could begin offering hardwood floor cleaning. There were no machines built to professionally clean hardwood floors, and since carpet cleaning equipment will not work for hard surfaces, I simply could not offer this service.

Fortunately, a few professional-grade machines have been developed over the last several years, specifically for cleaning hardwood floors, that do an outstanding job. They take safely deep cleaning them to a higher level than any other process. Now I can quickly deep clean hardwood floors efficiently enough to offer this service affordably and to provide excellent results.

My system pre-conditions, scrubs, rinses, squeegees, and vacuums the floor dry — all in one pass! With self-cleaning brush technology, soil is instantly lifted off and out of the hardwood surface, and the soil is not spread around at all. Stubborn, embedded soil that is trapped in beveled edges, cracks, and pores of the wood is lifted out with a strong vacuum, leaving the floor extremely clean and dry. It is much cleaner than by hand-scrubbing, without the risk of over-wetting — and it works a lot faster!

Along with soil removal, built-up residue from household cleaners is washed away, and floors are left in a neutral PH so they stay clean longer, and are easier to clean, when you do.

Periodically, deep cleaning your hardwood floors with this system will remove and prevent embedded and abrasive soils and sand, often not seen with the naked eye, from slowly building up and gradually degrading your floors surface finish and wear layer. The idea is to maintain it to prevent and prolong the mess and expense of full re-sanding and refinishing as long as possible.

I use a multi-step process that is safe for finished and waxed wood floors but not oiled wood.

  1. Power vacuum area with an industrial backpack vacuum with hardwood floor attachment. These units have a super strong vacuum, that works great for extracting embedded sand and debris from cracks and crevices.
  2. On prefinished floors, a two-step cleaning process is required. Floors are first machine-cleaned with heavy duty cleaner followed by a second full cleaning with neutral cleaner to balance the PH of the surface. Waxed floors only receive neutral cleaning to prevent wax removal, and lightly soiled floors without chemical residue build up.
  3. Dry mop and towel dry the floor and edges several times to ensure no trace of moisture is left
  4. Place a special floor-drying fan on the clean floor. This pulls warm air down and across the entire perimeter of the room to ensure drying. By the time everything is wrapped up, the fan is removed, and your floors are left perfectly clean and dry.
  5. Some limitations apply. Floors with excessively wide cracks may not be able to be cleaned. (Many times they get smaller during summer months; they are easier to clean during this time.) If the finish is wore off to bare wood, the floors will be cleaned at risk with a signed waiver.
